Flourish House – ‘The Ballad of Rosebud and Taiko‘

In February and March 2025, Flourish House members accompanied by visual and sound artists Eothen Stearn and Flora Zajicek embarked on three mornings of experimental radio workshops.
Together they developed stories linked to their chosen theme of ‘place’. Using drawing, hand building with clay, memory and map-making techniques, they came up with fictional characters who interacted with one another.
Embracing the power of collective imagination, they used narrative building techniques such as ‘story mountain’ to tell stories which were then translated to sounds.
Recordings were made in the surrounding neighbourhood of Flourish House in the Woodlands area of Glasgow. From recording the River Kelvin, to bees, boots, barking dogs, karaoke and tuning forks, it’s a sonic adventure that we hope you enjoy!
Flourish House is a mental health recovery community, offering support to people with long-term mental illnesses, enabling them to gain a sense of well-being and to recover confidence. People are encouraged to learn new skills to achieve social, financial and vocational goals, and to become active participants in the community.
Produced and mixed by Eothen Stearn.
