Petra hoc’h eus kavet?
At 6:30pm this evening – Glasgow based artist Matt Robin presents a radiophonic piece exploring memory, loss, and cultural erasure through a recorded phone call with the artist’s late grandmother, who passed away in January 2024.
In the conversation, he recalls his childhood in Brittany and sings “Petra hoc’h eus kavet, Yannig?” (“What did you find, Yannick?”) – a Breton song orally passed down from his own grandmother. Once suppressed in France, the Breton language has now been lost to the family. In the wake of this loss, the artist reaches for vanished connections, relying on imagination to fill in the gaps…
