Action Pyramid – remnant horizon

At 10 am this morning Action Pyramid (AKA Glasgow based sound artist Tom Fisher) presents a sonic tribute to Crossness Nature Reserve, a fragment of ancient marshland that once stretched from Woolwich to Erith on the River Thames. Serving as a refuge to some significant and nationally rare species the site’s diminutive size and open appearance belie the fact that through patient looking and listening a richness of place slowly reveals itself.
Originally commissioned for Three Rivers Bexley, ‘remnant horizon’ platforms the voices of this place – human and more-than-human – interweaving sounds from the reserve’s inhabitants with reflections from activists and advocates whose care and dedication sustain it. Their voices express a profound connection to the land and a commitment to its protection. Set against the ongoing threat of industrial redevelopment, the work carries a constant sonic tension, with human activity lingering at its edges. Sadly, since its creation, expansion of neighbouring waste incinerator infrastructure has been approved, intensifying the loss of this landscape.
