Ernests Vilsons – catalogue of noisy swing recordings

Ever wondered what a Latvian swing sounds like? At 9:40pm Ernests Vilsons & Ada Ruszkiewicz present us with an ever expanding audio archive in their ‘catalogue of noisy swing recordings’. You may well have heard some of these recordings in our morning ‘Buffer Zone’ slots where we have been featuring a ‘swing of the day’ for each day of our broadcasts. Here, you can listen to them all together in one place.
The catalogue is made up of several dozen sound recordings featuring squeaky, creaking, screeching or otherwise noisy swing sets. The reasons for swing noise are various – loose connections or fasteners, aging of the materials used in the construction of the swing, weather conditions affecting them, as well as the load and overload to which the swing is subjected. Although most of the recordings feature swings that only minimally differ in terms of mechanics, construction and materials used, their noise is never identical, providing a sound testimony to the environment in which the swing is placed.
