Neolithic Cannibals Radio Club Eastbourne

This morning at 9am, socially engaged sound art project, ‘Neolithic Cannibals’ take a further exploration through the deep time history of Neolithic sites.
Simon James originally co-created the project with education equality campaign group Class Divide and young artists in Whitehawk for an exhibition at Brighton Festival 2024. For this second iteration, Simon shared his practice on the Neolithic causewayed enclosures and barrows of Eastbourne, working with young artists to listen deeply to the unheard through a series of sound workshops in August 2025. The material gathered through experimental fieldwork sessions was sequenced live for this radiophonic collage and includes field recordings and fragments of a pop up spatial sound installation, a flint knapping demonstration, poetry and stone drum machine workouts.
Simon James is a self trained artist from a working class background listening to the unheard and the underheard. On this project he collaborated with Vanessa, Mollie, Corey, Daisy, Jess, Kitty, Harper and Florence. The piece also features the voices of flint knapper Grant Williams and archaeologist Steve Patton.
