Rundfunkorchestra – Sonic traces in a garden of longing

At 7pm this evening we inspect the ‘Sonic traces in a garden of longing’ with Rundfunkorchestra – a loose collective of sound artists based around Weimar, Dresden, Leipzig and Linz, working “radio-first” across broadcast, installation, and live performance.
‘Sonic traces in a garden of longing’ is a one-hour, live-to-tape radio performance produced for a dedicated broadcast slot and recorded remotely as an ensemble.
A score shapes the hour with a clear temporal architecture while deliberately leaving space for improvisation and individual decisions. Migration is approached not as a story but as a shifting network of sonic relations in three movements—Language/Home, Borders/Deterritorialisation, Movement—punctuated by solo passages. The material draws from the orchestra’s own recordings and archives: voice and multilingual traces, fractured music, animal worlds, the human world, nature.
Refusing a single “red thread,” the work treats transmission itself as a compositional device: through the curtain of the radio wave, background becomes foreground, inviting attention to focus, drift, return, and drift again.
In this way, migration hints toward otherness—that which is around us, which we always want to grasp, yet can never fully hold.
