Nat Raha

A sound performance work, surfacing the fabric of collective action and resistant living. Written out of queer and transfeminist worlds, the work addresses the possibilities and challenges of domesticities, desires and of maintaining communities in the face of gentrification, material precarities and care. Through experimental poetics, manipulated word and the electronics, the work inhabits a spatialised soundscape, carrying the plural, polyvocal ‘we’ that inhabits these worlds.

Dr Nat Raha is a poet and activist-scholar.  Her work is of an experimental queer lyric, attending to the everyday of marginalised life, hirstories of struggle and resistance to racial capitalism. She works through de/re/materialising sound, form and syntax, on the page and in performance.

Her books of poetry include apparitions (nines) (Nightboat Books, 2024) and, of sirens, body & faultlines (Boiler House Press, 2018). With Mijke van der Drift, Nat is co-author of Trans Femme Futures: Abolitionist Ethics for Transfeminist Worlds (Pluto Press, 2024, finalist for the Lambda Literary Awards 2025).

Nat’s work has been translated in numerous languages. Her critical and creative writing has appeared in Transgender Marxism (Pluto Press, 2021), Social Text, The Funambulist, The Brooklyn Rail, Poem-a-Day, and We Want It All: An Anthology of Radical Trans Poetics. Her performance work includes epistolary (on carceral islands), co-commissioned by Edinburgh Art Festival, Scotland and TULCA Festival of Visual Arts, Galway, Ireland, 2023. She teaches in Fine Art Critical Studies at the Glasgow School of Art.
