3. From Combruith to Soundlab, curious encounters and barefoot adventures (Combruith is the original Gaelic name for the village of Comrie and it means confluence; flowing together).

From a week of Radiophrenia workshops with young people in Strathearn in rural Perthshire, sound-play with field recorders triggered new understandings of environment, objects and people, in some peculiar local spaces.

The group explored the sonic treasure trove of Remake Community Reuse Charity and Scrapstore in Crieff, investigating the sound-making possibilities of random tools, haberdashery and curiosities, and asking what had ended up there, and why.

On a sound-walk through Crieff’s MacRosty park, with its Victorian bandstand and Turret river, they heard about its importance to local folk, and listened to the echoes from hydrophones dropped (carefully) off the bridge.

A 2-mile hike from the village of Comrie to Cultybraggan Camp, along the banks of the Ruchill, evolved into a surrealist documentary about barefoot adventures.
The tale concluded in a Nissen hut in Cultybraggan, a former military and POW camp, being transformed into Comrie Soundlab community music space and recording studio.
