Mingus (Gustavo Minian) & Maru Waldhuter – De/Cierto: A Mineral Symphony of the Void

Saturday, 19 September⋅6:30 – 7:00pm

At 6.30pm Mingus (AKA Gustavo Minian) & Maru Waldhuter present a sound essay investigating the construction of the “desert” as a political operation of emptying, in ‘De/Cierto: A Mineral Symphony of the Void’.

The piece traces a genealogy of the void, linking the Argentine State’s 1878 foundational genocide (“Conquest of the Desert”) with contemporary logics of mineral extractivism.

The project is rooted in media archaeology: it employs “tuning stones” (quartz and lithium) based on galena radio principles to capture the radio frequency spectrum without external power sources. This technique enables a physical interaction with territorial vibration and the acoustics of the air. The work is structured as a live non-fiction sound piece, processing and remixing records from the National General Archive alongside field recordings and choral testimonies. De/Cierto functions as a sonic archaeology that intervenes in the frequencies of historically silenced territories, exploring the radio medium as a site of tension between the documentary archive and geological materiality.

Maru Waldhüter is a sociologist and sound producer focused on documentary narratives and social research. Her work explores the intersection of regional politics and sound memory.

MINGUS / IDOSÔIDOS is a sound artist and researcher specializing in field recordings and media archaeology. His practice investigates the auditory perception of territories and the materiality of archives.
