Gemma Jones

Live in the studio:
Gemma Jones

Wednesday, 9 September11:00 – 11:30am

At 11am Glasgow-based visual artist, Gemma Jones will be with us live in the Radiophrenia studio to explore care based practices in the form of listening.

“We are in this together” originates from the artist’s experience of being read to, which has become an everyday ritual in the management of chronic pain. Gemma will read aloud a series of chosen texts regarding performance, landscape and chronic Illness to honour a shared space of radical tenderness and reflection.

Gemma works at the intersection of Disability Justice, Somatics, Embodiment, and Landscape. Her work combines performance, drawing, writing and sound to explore new languages and/or possibilities of the body. She creates performances that are not rehearsed where she uses the time before to research extensively, draw, write and gather images with a plan to respond to the live present moment.

Extracts from some of the following texts will form part of the performance:

Navarro, Eduardo “Riverbed Meditation”. Meandering Art, Ecology and Metaphysics

Ruwona,  Natasha Thembiso. “What is held between waters”. Institute of Postnatural studies, Compost Reader 2
