RIELES Y RUIDO (rails and noise) by matias, natalia y memo
Monday, 14 September⋅9:00 – 9:45pm
At 9pm tonight matias, natalia and memo dumay present RIELES Y RUIDO (rails and noise).
‘Rails and Noise’ is a site-specific work that took place on 6th November 2025, alongside the railway line in northern Paris. The performance and recording were carried out without breaks; only the editing and mixing of the tracks recorded simultaneously was permitted. Participants included Matias Reyes, Natalia Rivera-Riffo, and Memo Dumay. Three artists of Chilean origin based in Paris. The work was originally created for Radio Tsonami (Valparaiso, Chile) but was ultimately not broadcast – so this is its radio debut.
The raw material was the rails and trains that criss-cross the territory, evoking an object on a planetary scale. The noises and sounds of the neighbourhood intertwine with electromagnetic waves captured by synthesisers and sound distorters, giving rise to a ramified proposal: the creaking of mechanical gears, the cadence of trains and fragments of noise form an acoustic topography in motion.
