I love spending time at home. For nearly 10 years now, right in front of our house has been a forest of evergreen broad-leaved trees in the satoyama. I can observe the lives of creatures other than humans there. During the rainy season, moss clogged our gutters, and the sound of raindrops falling through them began to create an unpredictable rhythm. I played the electric piano in my room while listening to the rhythm of the raindrops. My family recorded it on Zoom. When the “Higurashi” cicadas start chirping, the rainy season ends. It’s always like that. Collecting the sounds of my home and jamming with them soothes my sound-filled mind. The snoring of a friend who sleeps well at our house sounds like a didgeridoo player offering a prayer for a good night’s sleep. There are moments like my solo performance at YoshimiO at Shiso-kan, a place dear to us. And sometimes I go to a studio with people I trust and pour out my desire to bring all these sounds together. I love singing while channeling my breath through a flute—sometimes a KHEAN, sometimes an ARGOZA.
わたしたちの家で過ごすことが好きです。もう10年ちかく家の目の前には里山における照葉樹林の森があります。人以外の生き物の暮らしを観察することもできます。梅雨のあいだ、家の雨どいに苔がつまり、雨どいを通って落ちる雨垂れ音は予測のつかないリズムを刻みだしました。うちの雨垂れビートを聴きながら部屋の中でエレピを弾きました。家のひとはZOOMで記録しました。ひぐらしが鳴き始めると梅雨はおわります。いつもそう。家の音の収集とその音たちとのセッションは音にあふれたわたしの脳を癒します。うちでよく寝れた友人のいびきは良き睡眠がとれますようにと祈りのディジリドゥー奏者のようです。わたしたちの大事な場所、四三館でのYoshimiO solo演奏など。そしてときどき気の知れたスタジオにいき、それらをまとめたいという想いを吐き出します。わたしはわたしの呼吸を笛に通しながら歌うことが好きです。ときにはKHEANに、ときにはARGOZAに。
