IRIDE PROJECT – Core de Mamme (Mother’s Heart)
Friday, 11 September⋅12:40 – 1:00pm
Today at 12:40pm Iride Project (Monica Miuccio & Massimo Daví) present a humouros audio drama that takes place 70 year ago in a small southern Italian rural village.
The piece is in Italian but you can read along with the English translation here: https://radiophrenia.scot/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/English-translation.pdf
‘Core de Mamme’ (Mother’s Heart), is synonymous with nurturing motherly love, but sometimes the phrase is used ironically…
A widowed mother praises her only daughter as virtuous and dedicated housewife.
The woman, very proud of herself, tells a lady neighbour how, with the help of the priest, she arranged a wealthy marriage for the girl in spite of their limited means.
The nosy neighbour is obviously very interested in knowing all details, and inquires about the whole negotiation. Only afterwards, with the nonchalant ease of an experienced gossiper, she reveals to the poor mother that everyone in the village knows that the marriage must be celebrated but only because her “virtuous” daughter is pregnant.
