Lugubrious

xentos fray bentos – Lugubrious

Saturday, 5 September⋅10:00 – 11:00pm

Tonight at 10pm – xentos fray bentos (aka Jim Welton) presents ‘Lugubrious’ – A remarkably prescient radio play created in response to the slow, inexorable decline of our Disunited Kingdom.

As human society continues to soil its own nest, Bentos sets off on a journey through the debris, reciting impolite monologues and recording whatever sonic attractions fall across his path. ‘Lugubrious’ eschews a temporal or formal structure and instead seeks to negotiate the hinterland between outrageous solipcism and the interactive peaks of the unconscious. Expect joy and tears in equal measure for are we not the sum of all contradictions?

About Xentos: These few lines must serve to convey the essence of the artist’s long creatively fecund period on the earth. After several failed attempts at an education, he was taken under the Essex wing of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Notion. Slowly, under a reign of blows and religious brutality that would make a stay in Guantanamo Prison seem akin to a Club 18/60 holiday spa experience, he grew bold and struck out into a radiophonic bloom. This direction saw him spend the first of many gruelling hours in the field and the fruits of this practise are rotting delightfully.
